TRIO SANSSOUCI

The Trio Sanssouci, based in the city of Kassel in Central Germany, was founded in 1987 with the idea of bringing the wealth of enjoyable and interesting literature for flute ensemble into performance. The flute trio repertory which most flautists are familiar with through its pedagogical uses, is intended by transcriptions and arrangements of other chamber music pieces, made by members of the group. For example, the Bach organ trio sonata in E-major was arranged for concert flute, alto flute and bass flute, thereby preserving the homogeneity of tone colour while allowing the individual voices to be transparently perceived. In addition to the repertory of music from the baroque through romantic periods, the Trio Sanssouci frequently performs salon music, French flute literature of this century and avant-garde flute music.

The members of the ensemble:

VERONICA KRANEIS has given public concerts since the age of 15, both in solo and chamber music settings, throughout Germany and in other countries. In addition to the classical flute literature, she occupies herself with the cross-over styles between classical and popular music and enjoys taking advantage of the sound possibilities to the various flutes in improvisational contexts. She is the founding member of the TRIO SANSSOUCI.
LESLEY OLSON, from the Chicago area in the USA, has been for the last years a resident of Germany. She studied flute and composition at the University of Illinois. While living in the USA, she helped to found several ensembles especially devoted to the 20th-century music, one of which toured in Europe for six months 1898-1990. She is particularly engaged with contemporary literature for flute, and frequently performs in festivals and in workshops.
ULLRICH PÜHN has played flute since he was eight years old, studying later at the Hochschule (Academy) in Hamburg, and has given numerous concerts throughout Germany and Europe. Since 1985 he has played piccolo and flute at the State Theatre Orchestra of Kassel and otherwise teaches flute at the Gesamthochschule (University) in Kassel.
